Term 3 Projects

Another term is almost over again. I love that my children's friends like coming to our place to 'play'.  They can produce some amazing work and there are certainly many interesting conversations along the way. One child wanted to know why someone's Dad's clothes were not going to appear on her washing line...umm...I decided on the explanation of

"because her Mum doesn't wash her Dad's clothes anymore"...

It worked, there were no more questions!

How pleased do these creative little people look with their artwork? They all did such a fantastic job.

The topic for the term was clothing. We dyed our own fabric, overpainted using sticks from the garden, used a pattern to cut out pieces from the fabric to form caps and then sewed them together. You never know, one of these could be the next Christian Dior...

I'm really pleased to say that they are all becoming quite capable on a sewing machine. I was so proud of Bella today who tackled sewing fabric to the front of gift cards all on her own. I managed to walk away and leave her to it. She was so capable and at 6, that is pretty special!

Pinup Boards

Aren't these fantastic.

Teach kids how to use a staple gun, some basic upholstery, hospital corners and let them loose with a glue gun (supervised of course!) and look what you get. I also emphasised that every girl should have her very own toolbox. Now there's a whole other project!!! I have a feeling the sales of staple guns may increase over the next few weeks...

Framing Ideas - A Success!!!

Leila's Pinup Board (Age 8)
The school holiday winter projects have once again proved a great success. We had a couple of miserable rainy days but the beautiful artwork produced brought all the colour back into a cloudy grey day...

Easter Projects

Easter projects are great for using up those odd bits of paper and cardboards plus it keeps the kids entertained.

Not only can these baskets be used for Easter but I showed these kids how they could make their own at any time and use it to put gifts in, carry popcorn or even as lolly bags for birthday parties.
Now given a piece of paper or card, each one of them will be able to make their own basket any time they like.

Term One - where has it gone?

We're nearly at the end of another term already. Projects spent time focussing on drawing what we see.
There has been lots of use of colour and playing with colours to determine how we can make new colours. It proves to be very messy but lots of fun. And we've also spend a few weeks undertaking some paper mache with some interesting results.

We've been mixing our own colours using only primary colours, making our own coloured paper and working with collage. You can see some of the results in the fantastic sketch pads.
After cleaning up each week we have started playing Mr Squiggle which has gone down a treat. It's loads of fun. Only one person knew who Mr Squiggle was but we have since changed that!!!

From Fabric to Product...

These clever little bunnies have created their own fabric design, dyed their fabric, designed a pattern and arranged it on the fabric then used the fabric to make a final product.
We had flower pillows, scented hearts and headbands just to name a few. Very talented!!!

Term One - Here We Go Again...

Yes, we are at it again. A new term and a whole new year. We started the term by looking at designing some of our own fabric. We used candle wax and melted it onto the fabric then used dye to colour our piece of material.
It didn't take long for the wax to dry though the picking it off was a slightly longer process. This week the girls will use their material and sew it into something gorgeous. Keep watching...

Summer Holiday Projects

 Project #One ...

Dream catchers - I am sure these will do their job. They shall catch those bad dreams letting the good ones through. How can they not when they look this good.

Project #2
Wrap Around Skirts - who ever said you couldn't teach a 6 year old the basics of sewing?
Project Idea # 3 - Appliqued T Shirts...and aren't they beautiful!

Project Idea # 4

Look at these clever little monkeys. Give them some paint, a pot, soil and flowers and they are happy.

And how good do they look?

I've really enjoyed the Summer Holiday Projects with a lovely group of kids.

One handbag project next week then we will be back to school to start another year. Where have all these holidays gone?
