Term One - Week Two

What a colourful bunch they are! This week the kids have zoomed through their work in order to start on their canvases. I think the thought of getting paint on their brushes, not to mention their fingers, faces and painting aprons is just too much fun.

Actually they really weren't that bad.

We started off colouring a grid of squares making sure that the colours didnt' bump into each other' which followed on from our work in week one. They then had to transfer the colours from the grid on paper to squares on the canvas which proved to be a challenge for some of the smaller ones. That is where artistic licence comes in.

I'm trying to get them to enjoy the experience of actually painting rather than focusing on getting it finished. If the atmosphere when parents arrive to pick them up is anything to go by, they are well and truly on their way...

Term One 2009 Art Classes - Week One

This term I'm running solo. Sandra has more than her fair share of things on her 'To Do' list and adding another couple of classes to that would require at least another 20 hours a week. As we all know, as much as we'd like the extra hours some weeks, would we really???And so art classes are being run two days each week with a maximum number of 10. So far it's proving to be a good number. Lots of one on one and less room to run around. That was probably our only negative point from having our last classes in a big area.

We are working on a nine week term again and the kids will be focussing on painting their own canvas based loosely on the style of work by artist Penny Hudson. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

This week the two groups worked on scribble drawings using the shapes of hearts. The aim was to colour each space in the drawing without the colours 'bumping' into eachother. They then used this technique to create their own designs for Valentines Day cards.
